Race Types |
Sprint Race |
| | A relatively short race, consisting of 7-10 laps (depending on track length),
usually taking 10-15 minutes to complete |
| | Most races in the MRA are Sprint races, with the exception of Heat races, Endurance races, & Race of the Rockies |
|
| Heat Race |
| | Only run when there are too many racers signed up for a specific class |
| | A short 3 lap race - the top finishers qualify to compete in the class they signed up for |
| | Racers that do not qualify are allowed to compete in the Sportsman class |
| | If required, heat races are the first races of the day |
|
| Endurance Race |
|
| | A 30-minute timed race ridden by 1 rider. |
| | These races are broken down into 4 different categories based on engine size: |
| |
Lightweight | - | small 4-cylinder and small-to-mid sized 2 cylinder 1 |
Middleweight | - | Engine displacement up to 640 cc for a 4-cylinder (or up to 750 cc for a 2-cylinder) 1 |
Heavyweight | - | Engine displacement up to 750 cc for a 4-cylinder (or up to 1000 cc for a 2-cylinder) 1 |
Open | - | Engine displacement is not limited |
|
| | Endurance races take place on Saturday afternoon. |
|
| Race of the Rockies |
| | The MRA's premiere class, running twice as many laps as a Sprint race. |
| | aka "ROR" |
| | Split into 2 categories based on engine size: |
| |
GTU - | Engine displacement up to 640 cc for a 4-cylinder (or up to 750 cc for a 2-cylinder) 1 |
GTO - | Engine displacement must be larger than those eligible for ROR GTU |
|
| | Winner of ROR GTO championship is considered the #1 plate holder for the following season. |
|
| Sportsman class |
| | This class is intended to be an essentially non-competetive environment where racers can hone their skills until they are ready to move up to other classes. |
| | This class is open to both Expert & Novice racers. |
| | Brand new Novices are usually seen running this race. |
| | It is not typically run by experts unless they are coming back from an injury or they failed to qualify (heat race) for another class. |
| | There are no engine displacement limitations. |
