After racing motocross for a couple of years, Joe decided to try his hand ad roadracing.
Joe competed in the last 3 race weekends of 2003, and in 2004, he won the Sportsman championship. Joe's original plan for 2005 was to compete in the SuperMoto series, but a blown engine after the first race forced him to change plans. He competed in a few races aboard a Suzuki SV-650, and finished the season on a Kawasaki ZX-6RR. 2006 didn't go quite as planned: the Aprilia RSV Mille he started the season with didn't suit his riding style, so he switched to a 2001 Suzuki GSX-R750 mid-season. Being a close friend to Gene and his family, Gene's death had an impact as well.
